Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics – Is it Really The World’s Most Effective Probiotic?

What are probiotics and why’d you want to eat them? Here is a brief overview of the benefits of probiotics, then I present possibly the best probiotic product in the world, which leaves competitors behind in all comparable factors.

What are probiotics?

The word probiotic means the opposite of antibiotic. Originally the Greek term for the term “probiotic” means “for life” (“pro bio” = for life). Probiotic bacteria which lives in our intestines ferment dietary fibers and forms a variety of health benefits and vital substances such as essential amino acids, vitamins, short chain fatty acids, and anti-inflammatory elements.

The probiotic preparation means a product that contains a lot of beneficial live bacteria that will change the human intestinal bacterial strains better, balances immune system activity, and thus lead to health improvement.

Why use probiotics?

The number of bacterial cells in the human body exceeds ten times the number of human cells, so we could say that at least in cell numbers we are more bacteria than human cells.

The difference is even more drastic when we compare the amounts of genes, as most estimates note that bacterial genes overrun the amounts of human genes 100 to 1 in conservative estimations (or even 150 to 1 and most genes are more active in bacteria).

The ideal balance between these bacteria is 85% “good” and 15% “bad” bacteria. When harmful bacteria begin to rise from this ideal balance, they start to promote disease and prevent the immune system from working optimally.

Microorganisms that live in the digestive tract form a very important “inner ecosystem” that affects countless aspects of your health. More specifically, a number of organisms and the type of them in your digestive tract interact with your body in ways that can either prevent or contribute to a variety of diseases or even to the development of mental health problems.

One known example of the benefits of probiotics is that they have been found to be able to prevent traveler’s diarrhea significantly (meta-analysis).

Normal probiotics vs. Dr. Ohhira’s probiotics

Normal probiotics are grown in a standard laboratory, followed by freeze-drying and lastly a bit of inulin is placed among them. As an end result, a large proportion of the bacteria is dead at the point where you put the capsule in your mouth. Often, this “die-off rate” is up to ~ 80% and you will, therefore, get only 20% of the surviving bacteria. These too can help, but still, quite a difference compared to Ohhira’s preparation.

Why Dr. Ohhira’s probiotics are considered by far the world’s most effective as a probiotic?

This Ohhira’s originally a Japanese probiotic product is prepared by mixing 40 different plants, fruit, seaweed, etc. into a purée. This purée is planted with 12 strains of bacteria and they leave the mixture to ferment for an amazing three years!

What happens during this time? Bacteria will battle for living space for three years. In the end, only the toughest good bacteria remains. You want these bacteria to fight for your stomach to support well-being.

Ohhira also includes a unique TH10 bacteria, which may have the power to destroy MRSA infection if it is staying in the intestine (including Streptococcus, the genus Staphylococcus MRSA).

The new development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria produced a considerable challenge to Dr. Ohhira and his team. To combat these new harmful invaders, they developed a particularly useful TH10 strain of lactic acid bacteria isolated from Malaysian tempeh food.

Researchers have found that Dr. Ohhira’s TH10 of probiotics found in the lactic acid bacterial strain was 6.25 times more potent than naturally occurring lactic acid bacteria.

This special TH10 strain has been found in vitro studies to have shown been effective against antibiotic-resistant MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) superbug, as well as E. coli 0-157 and the H. pylori bacteria, latter of which causes most of the stomach ulcers.

This “combative” TH10 bacteria may be the most important bacterial strain in Dr. Ohhira’s probiotics because it kills and eliminates harmful bacteria that are found in the digestive system. It also assists in removing toxins caused by bad bacteria in the gut produce.

After consumption TH10 bacteria inhabit the digestive system for a longer time in which they thrive and live in harmony with colonizer bacteria such as lactobacillus and bifidobacteria strains that live in the intestinal walls. Colonizer bacteria assist digestion and absorption of nutrients, and together with the TH10 bacteria, they form protection against the invasion of bad bacteria.

Where can you buy Dr. Ohhira’s probiotics?

Amazon.com (though, read reviews – some suspect Amazon’s Ohhirra to be a fake or counterfeit product. That’s why I always order this product from iHerb.com which only sell fresh supplements that come directly from the manufacturer).

At first glance, the price may seem expensive, but if you have ever visited Japan and experienced the local price level, you understand that this is actually a really cheap product. The three-year fermentation time also affects the price slightly upward when compared, such as with normal probiotics.

Dr. Ohhira’s products are very popular around the world. iHerb supply often shows zero, so if the product is in stock I recommend making the order immediately.

Other probiotic products

Healthy Origins Probiotics, a blend of eight bacterial strains (Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium lactis, Lactobacillus casei, Bifidobacterium breve, Lactobacillus salivarius, Lactobacillus plantarum, Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus). 30 billion bacteria / capsule.

That is pretty basic probiotic but wins the most basic probiotic products which usually have 4-7 strains of bacteria and 4-5 billion bacteria/capsule. Very good choice for basic use such as making digestion more efficient and improve the functioning of the stomach.

When to use probiotic products?

Probiotics can be used at any time to optimize your health and digestion. But they are especially recommended for digestive ailments. And when traveling to a country that may have a difference in the bacterial environment. If you’re traveling to Asia from Europe or the U.S, then it’s very wise to start a probiotics regimen a few weeks before departure.

My experience with Dr. Ohhira’s probiotics

Taking probiotics on the go can be a really good idea. I just tested Dr. Ohhira’s probiotics prior to my holiday to Thailand, and I can say that Dr. Ohhira’s worked convincingly.

My stomach has never worked so well as now during the time when I used Dr. Ohhira’s probiotics. I had minor gastrointestinal problems about 1 week after I arrived in Thailand, but these problems disappeared almost immediately when I took Dr. Ohhira’s probiotic capsule.

And I took one capsule per day, although the daily dose is two capsules. The energy levels were clearly better. And I did feast with food like a beast and never before has the food digested so well for me. The conclusions are very clear, I will always take Dr. Ohhira’s probiotics on the go when I’m going to travel abroad.

How to use probiotic products?

It’s a good idea to take probiotics on an empty stomach so that the capsule can be easily reached from the stomach into the small intestine. Either in the evening at bedtime or waking up in the morning (if you do not eat anything immediately waking up) is a good time to take a probiotic preparation.

Probiotics side effects

Some may experience stomach problems such as flatulence and bloating when they take probiotics for the first time. People with a weakened immune system are not generally recommended to use probiotics (example if receiving chemotherapy). Same thing with the transplant anti-rejection drugs users. If you are pregnant, or have a stomach-related disease, or are taking medicines it is recommended to discuss with your doctor before the use of probiotics. Allergic reactions are possible but rare.
